In October 2024, Chris Houston delivered a seminar about war, humanitarianism and the need for the Canadian Peace Museum
"I have been based in Canada for thirteen years. During that time I have worked for the Canadian Red Cross, Doctors without Borders and the United Nations in humanitarian emergencies in three continents. A common theme in my work has been witnessing impact of armed conflict. I live with PTSD as a result of experiencing war in month-long doses, with many safeguards that the local populations do not have.
I appreciate the relative peacefulness of Canada, but I do not take it for granted. We are opening the Canadian Peace Museum to promote peace and to showcase the links between peace, conflict, equity, cohesive communities, art, activism and climate change.
The rise of polarization, misinformation, disinformation, and hatred risks violence, and the urgency to provoke important conversations about our individual and collective responsibilities to be peaceful and promote peace is high.
I hope you will support our ambition to keep Canada peaceful and to increase peace promotion globally."
